On-the-Job Training Blog: Week 8

 Day 35 (March 24, 2025)

For the thirty-fifth day, starts another new week of our OJT. We focused on creating the web pages into WordPress. I based from what I have learned from watching some video tutorials about it I start to get the gist of it. For me I created the Hero Section as well as the header for the web pages so it looks and feel like the official Bicol University website. I still think coding the system is much better since you have a lot more freedom on what you want the website to be even if it might take a while. The website would look a lot more barebones and a lot less user-friendly even to us, since you are just using the free versions of WordPress as well as the downloadable plugins.

Day 36 (March 25, 2025)

For the thirty-sixth day, as usual we still continued creating web pages with the use of WordPress. We created more web pages and started to work out on how the roles work in WordPress. We have created some sections like the contact us, FAQs and footer as well as how the division pages would look like. The hard part is how to make the Articles display dynamically when the writer/editor wants to create an article. When we asked on how to do it, they stated the we should not create it Elementor. Elementor is a plugin that we were using the make web pages a lot easier and more user-friendly. Creating articles using base WordPress is very unintuitive. I hope that we could find a way on how to have like a sort of template so that if a writer/editor writes an article, it automatically follows the desired format.

Day 37 (March 26, 2025)

For the thirty-seventh day, we continued creating the web pages for the CMS. For this day we pretty much just did some minor changes for how the website would look like. I created another part for the Hero section which has a video about OVPRDE as well as a button, when clicked would link the user to the existing system that the CS students developed. Others have created other sections and figuring out how the articles dynamically display.

Day 38 (March 27, 2025)

For the thirty-eight day, another task has been given to us other than the creation of the CMS using WordPress. One of us including me was tasked to create a tarpaulin design for an upcoming meeting which will be held at Hotel Lucca here in Legazpi City. Searched for some inspiration on how to create the design and turned out to be good, but it looked a bit plain since there were still some spaces that are not utilized. We asked some help from one of my fellow classmates to help with the filler designs and it actually turned out nice.

Day 39 (March 28, 2025)

For the thirty-ninth day, we continued in the web site creation using WordPress. In this day we were asked to have a short meeting with our mentor Ma’am Llovido to see the progress as well as give some suggestions on what things should be changed. Some sections were suggested to be removed like the buttons in the specific division pages. We also demonstrated on how each of the roles work, which is the contributor, author, editor and then the administrator. The administrator pretty much has every control in the system, the editor can oversee every work of each user in the post and can approve any pending post, the author can automatically publish the post with the editors’ approval, and the contributor has create posts but still needs the approval of the editor.
